Director of Clinical Services

Dr. Michelle Brisman comes to us with a B.A. from Binghamton University and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Yeshiva University. She began her formal career as a clinical neuropsychologist at the United Cerebral Palsy Association in NY before undertaking her internship at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in NJ, where she specialized in cognitive rehabilitation of various medical and neurologically compromised populations — a specialization she continued to pursue when she was offered the position of Director of Medical Rehabilitation Services at the Capital Region/Eastern Connecticut Easter Seals in 2001, working closely with neurologically affected groups, such as those with TBI/ABI, stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, seizure disorders, and brain tumors.
In 2006, Dr. Brisman joined Mt. Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital and St. Francis Behavioral Health Group, working on both inpatient and outpatient units in acute rehabilitation. While there, she expanded MSRH’s neuropsychology department and opened a private practice to broaden the reach of her services — eventually moving her private practice to the Farmington Valley, where forensic neurological referrals and Acquired Brain Injury Waiver (ABI) clients were a priority.

Dr. Brisman’s most exciting career move took place in early 2022 when she officially joined the Supported Living Group, LLC (SLG) as our Director of Clinical Services. Here, she is the lead cognitive behavioral therapist (CBT) for many of our clients. Assisting with behavioral management and goal achievement, she spends her time working with clients to achieve a better quality of life, improve self-esteem, and overcome the physical and cognitive obstacles caused by brain injuries. Known for her compassion and kindness, Dr. Brisman strives to help her clients and their families acknowledge and deal with the many formidable issues that a TBI/ABI creates while at the same time helping those individuals recognize and optimize their valuable ongoing abilities. She also provides support and education to our staff, with an emphasis on developing the self-care protocols that enable us all to treat ourselves, our clients, and our loved ones in an attentive and thoughtful manner.
Dr. Brisman maintains memberships in the National Academy of Neuropsychology, the American Psychological Association, the CT Psychological Association, the CT Neuropsychological Society, and the Brain Injury Alliance of CT.

When Dr. Brisman isn’t moving from one challenge to the next, she is spoiling her family of six sons/step-sons and their significant others, her husband, and one adorable fur baby named Cody, who is known to visit our Avon office from time to time.
